Over the weekend of 16th & 17th May 2026, the Club will be operating a special event station. This will coincide with the Steam On The Levels festival at the Pumping Station in Westonzoyland, and we will be operating as GB5SOL.

The Club will be active on HF, VHF and also through the QO-100 satellite (the only geostationary satellite available to radio amateurs). We aim to be using a mix of modes, including CW, SSB and FT8 on HF, FM on 2m (with a link to SWANHub) and CW only on QO-100.

The special event callsign, GB5SOL, celebrates the use of steam in the rural landscape and particularly the pumping station at Westonzoyland. The original pumping station building dates from 1831 and was the first one to be built on the Somerset Levels, following developments and plans by land-owners to control the flooding and draining of the surrounding low-lying fields.
